Eliezar (ca. 70–79 C.E.)
Legendary Jewish exorcist. According to the historian Josephus
(ca. 37–ca. 100 C.E.), who claimed to have witnessed an exorcism
in the presence of Emperor Vespasian, Eliezar applied
to the possessed person a ring to which was attached a magical
root prescribed by King Solomon. This drew out the devils,
which Eliezar caused to pass into a basin of water, which was immediately
poured away.
