Hepatoscopy
A branch of haruspicy or extispicy (divination from the entrails
of animals). In ancient times the liver was regarded as the
focal point of life and thus of special occult significance. It was
studied in detail, being divided into a number of zones, each
associated with particular deities. The markings in these zones
were considered to have special significance.
